History of Media at Ewa Makai Middle School
What began as an after school video production class has evolved into the state's first middle school multi-media program that reaches all students. Discussion for a media program first began during the 2011 - 2012 school year as administration began to look for a new direction that would make use of the school's technology and natural affinity toward sustainability.
The next school year, Mr. Toyota was picked to lead the development of the department and curriculum. Over the Summer of 2013, Mr. Robison and Mr. Uwaine were added to the program. With just weeks to prepare, the department developed its unique approach to combining media with global issues while also finding their own unique approaches to media. Beginning in the 2013 school year the experiment began, and to this day continues to engage students.

Home Media vs. Strand Media
Students are assigned to a Home Media which serves as a home base for students to report to on a daily basis for attendance purposes. From there, students are given the opportunity to enroll in and explore 3 unique media strands - Video Production, Social Media, and Game Design (Click on the images below for additional information).
